Zombie

As we leave yet another summer and go into Halloween season, let's revive a classic summer beach drink with a Halloween name - the Zombie. This tasty combination of rums, lime, fruits, and spices made Don Beach, the inventor of the Zombie, a tiki god. Due to their high alcohol content and fruit smoothie taste, Beach's Don the Beachcomber restaurants only permitted two Zombies per customer. After Don's death in 1989, recipes for the Zombie scattered to every island in the Caribbean; most of them sugar-filled ick. The following recipe is the original and all the rest are junk.
There is a secret ingredient in Beach's recipe - Don's Mix. To make Don's Mix, make cinnamon-infused sugar syrup by heating 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and two cinnamon sticks. Boil to half. Don's Mix is 2 parts grapefruit juice to 1 part cinnamon syrup.

Zombie
Classic Pour Series

1 1/2 ounces dark rum
1 1/2 ounces gold rum
1 ounce 151 rum
1/2 ounce of Don's Mix
1/2 ounce falernum
3/4 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
1 tsp. grenadine
6 drops Herbsaint
Dash of Angostura bitters

Shake all and serve in a hurricane glass with tropical fruit. I pour a virgin zombie for the kids using the same recipe without any rum.
