Hecatomb

I guess we left up the CLOSED sign on the Firewater Lounge for the month of October. Sorry, our schedules get the better of us every once in a while. So let’s waste no more time and get the thirsty Lounge lizards a drink. How about the Halloweenie original, Hecatomb? It features two slightly unusual ingredients that most people will find appealing: St. James rhum and Zwack.

St. James, Hors D’Age is the oldest of all the rhums that St. James distillery produces for the U.S. market. A French West Indies spirit, St. James Hors D’Age has a sweet, nutty aroma and tastes like fruits and nuts mixed with brown sugar. This spirit is what they call an ‘agricole rhum’ which means that it is distilled from fresh sugar cane in a single pass through a column still rather than being distilled from molasses in any number or type of stills.

Zwack is a proprietary herbal liqueur from Hungary. Known for its bomb-shaped bottle, Zwack is made from a secret blend of 40 different distilled and macerated herbs and spices which gives it a sweet Jagermeister-like taste. Given the sweet stuff in the Hecatomb, be sure to buy real pomegrante juice, not syrup.
