Essential Liquor #19

#19) Crème de Cacao - Like curaçao, this is a liqueur whose name gets totally butchered. Two pronunciations are correct. The first pronunciation is the one tosses around here at the Firewater Lounge, phonetically ca-cow. The other is a bit more classy, phonetically ca-kay-o. Likely you will hear, "Grab me the bottle of chocolate" as often as anything.

Despite the fact that American women's favorite food is chocolate, I would not suggest that Joe go hog wild on expensive chocolate liqueur since it is rarely the feature of any drink and is usually the third or fourth ingredient. DeKuyper is fine here. Otherwise, if you need to impress the ladies, Godiva and Vermeer are the way to go.

Maxim Cocktail (with bitters)
1 ounce gin
3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
2 teaspoons crème de cacao
1-2 drops Angostura bitters

Stir. Enjoy.
