Yale College Punch

I had to take a break from drinking and Halloween to coach at a national mock trial tournament at Yale University this weekend. That doesn't mean you have to stop drinking. So let me leave you with a punch recipe from Yale that is probably as old as Skull and Bones, yet pretty easy to concoct.
First, you need to get six of your closest friends, no more, no less. Then you need to find a punch bowl that can hold 2 1/2 liters of liquid. And you will need a pineapple. Well, I'd write more, but I gotta go!

Yale College Punch
Classic Pour Series

1 bottle VSOP cognac
20 ounces soda water
1 bottle of champagne
4 tablespoons of powdered sugar

In your punch bowl, steep the pineapple in a 750 ml bottle of VSOP cognac for two hours under refrigeration (We used Courvoisier). When you are ready to serve, add the soda water and powdered sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add a bottle of chilled champagne of your choosing. Yale students demand that you use champagne goblets, but glasses that have bowls to them are nice, like punch glasses and snifters.
