Fort Point

Drink: Fort Point
Establishment: Bryant's (made famous at Drink in Boston)
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin / Boston, Massachusetts
First Connoisseur: Holly

2 ounces rye
1/2 ounce Punt e Mes
1/4 ounce Fernet Branca

A manly drink, no doubt, poured for me when I asked the bartender if he had any Fernet behind the bar (which he did). Essentially, this is a variation on a drink invented in Boston which itself is basically a variation on a classic Manhattan. For an original Fort Point, replace the Fernet with the same amount of Benedictine. Like a Manhattan, this drink is often built in a rocks glass and stirred. At Bryant's, my drink was garnished with cognac-soaked cherries. Here we display the cocktail in classic style, strained of its ice to show of its brilliant hue, paired with a vintage Jim Beam bottle.
