Drink: Merry Maker
Around America Series
Establishment: Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
First Connoisseur: Aaron
2 ounces Maker's Mark
1 1/2 ounces Chambord
1 1/2 ounces cranberry juice
1 ounce pomegranate juice
1 light squeeze lemon juice
1 light squeeze lime juice
When Aaron turned us on to this little holiday number last New Year's Eve, we thought that it would be a great addition to the Around America series (and our first entry from right here in Madtown). Unfortunately, the ingredients, though not uncommon, are sort of a pain to just 'have on hand.' Chambord is not usually at the Lounge due to its sticky-sweet syrupy nature. Likewise, real pomegranate juice is something you have to remember to buy otherwise it is not in the fridge like orange or lemon juice. Regardless, this drink is worth the trip to the store. Looking too saccharine at first glance, the Merry Maker's bourbon and black raspberry sweetness is tempered with a quartet of fruit juices.
Build over ice in a rocks glass from the first ingredient of the recipe to the last. Stir and savor. Follow it with a Manhattan and a cigar.
